The vast number people in Flagstaff who rely on meals from the Flagstaff Family Food Center (FFFC) has grown dramatically with the current economic crisis. Yet the FFFC's capacity to feed those in need is greatly limited by the fact that they must spend many thousands of dollars each year heating an energy inefficient building with a large carbon footprint. Relatively inexpensive weatherization retrofits will allow the FFFC to heat and serve more food rather than pour their money into heating the planet. This situation is urgent.

Equally urgent is the fact that many of Flagstaff's lowest income residents live in homes that are least energy efficient and most costly to heat. This creates great hardship for those already living on the margin - creating impossible choices such as "do we eat? or do we heat?" Again, inexpensive retrofits and changes in energy use habits can save families hundreds of dollars each year.

Friends of Flagstaff's Future and NAU’s Weatherization and Community Building Action Team (WACBAT!) are holding this 'Heat the Food, Not the Planet' Fundraiser to collect contributions toward the weatherization of FFFC and dozens of low income homes in our community. Working in collaboration with many partners, WACBAT will weatherize the Food Center and many residences in Flagstaff this winter and early spring. At the same time, we will continue build community relationships, stewardship capacity, and political muscle for a more sustainable and just future. WE CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU!
